What to expect for your pet’s surgical appointment

Once you have scheduled your appointment you will receive a reminder call the day before surgery. We ask that you drop your pet off the night before with our Surgery Coordinators between the hours of 4pm – 8:00pm.  They will have you sign a surgery release form, the surgery will be performed the following morning.  If your pet has not received a recent thorough exam we do recommend you see a Veterinarian prior to the surgery date.

On the morning of surgery, your pet will be sedated and the surgical procedure you have elected will be performed.  After surgery is complete your pet will be placed in recovery until they awake. Once awake your pet will go back into its holding area to rest until time to go home.

When you arrive to pickup your pet please see our Surgery Coordinators, they will ask that you take care of your bill prior to retrieving your pet. Please note that Feline de-claw patients are kept over night for observation and care. They can be pick-up  24 hours after surgery. We may go over the care instructions with you before retrieving your pet or this may be done once you go back to get your pet.  If you have any questions regarding after care please let us know.

Your pet may be drowsy the evening of surgery, some pets may still be a little drowsy the next morning.  If your pet does not drink within 24 hrs or eat within 48 hrs post-op then you should bring him/her back into the clinic to be checked.  Please understand that some vomiting may occur after surgery due to the anesthesia, however this should not persist beyond 48 hrs. If so, bring your pet in.

It is very important to leave alternate numbers where you can be reached, although we are committed to taking every measure possible to prevent any complications, unexpected events can occur.   In the event something unexpected did occur we want to be able to reach you as quickly as possible.
